Yeah, I know, I’ve kind of disappeared lately. Aside from one feature article, I haven’t put an article up on MousePlanet since late March. My last post here was about nine months ago. My MousePlanet Twitter feed has been nearly silent. Unless you follow my personal Twitter feed or my Facebook account, you likely thought that I dropped off the face of the earth.
The truth is that this has been a long time coming. I’ve been wanting to spend more time with my family and focus on their health and my own—as well as deal with changes at my day job—for some time now, and stepping back from writing regularly was the first step in that process. Now that things are a little more stable here, I’m going to try to post here occasionally, partly just to keep my head straight and partly to comment on my latest adventure.
I stepped back from MousePlanet a bit further than I had originally planned. I was going to write a feature article every month, but after getting one up in April I’ve missed May and June. I’ve also not done some of the administrative things that I had planned to do. Instead, I’ve been working later at the office most days, and I’ve been spending more time with my family and on my health.
Things at work have gone from extremely busy to insanely busy as New York State’s IT Transformation initiative continues to march inexorably forward. At the same time, we’ve also pushed to get our son over a series of illnesses and (in the last few days) get him through sinus surgery and recovery therefrom.
I’m getting stuff cleaned up around the house that have been piling up for over a decade. I have recycled, thrown out, and designated for shredding over 50 cubic feet of boxes of stuff.
Finally, I’m taking care of myself. Since March 1, I’ve lost 23 pounds, walked and jogged 119 miles, and committed to getting myself healthy. My goal is to get down to 200 pounds by my birthday next year. It’s kind of a tight schedule, but I need to try to do it.
I’m also going to try to get more things done over at MousePlanet. There are still several things that I’ve left undone, and that need to get done.
My posts here will likely be mostly about fitness as I continue my initiative to get healthy, but I’m sure that other topics will make their way in as well. Let’s see how long I can keep the blog active this time around. It’ll be interesting to see.
